I have been wanting to write this for quite sometime and this morning after reading somebody else write about it i decided to post it myself.
Why travelling within the states is a torture.
yes, you have read it right. i consider it one of the biggest and most irking things ever - security checks.
i agree that the people here are paranoid of security and they have a reason to be.but sometimes it just takes the life out of you and makes you feel what-the-hell. Let me tell you the list of things i simply hate.
- To remove your shoes, belts, and coats. It is a pain to wear them again and it is not possible without them either esp during winter. Atleast women have the choice of not wearing a belt but most men do.
- They will let you go if they hear a beep. period. i have had problems with bangles. i removed them. i had problems with chains. i removed them. and the list just grows..so when i travel with my mother/mother-in-law i hate to see them being hassled and asking them to remove their thali. i find it absurd. Just because you let terrorists carrying bombs in their underwear doesnt mean you cannot respect religious sentiments. I have seen them ask passengers remove their turbans, purdah's etc.
-My father had a small metal travel comb for the last 43 years. He has traveled extensively in Europe and the Gulf and just when he landed in the US they had to throw it away. Why? because you cannot carry metal combs inside the US. Note- 'inside'. Anywhere else in the world it is fine.
-Customer service is horrible.In-flight service is even bad and there is absolutely nothing you can get to eat/drink as a complimentary service.(Southwest excused)
- George Clooney can make the whole process look so simple in the movie 'Up in the air' but in real life it doesn't seem that way.

pls feel free to add more if you know..i read about this in this blog.

LOL- I was about to mention 'Up in the Air'. I've been trying to replicate George Clooney :)

For parents, I would suggest doing the pat-down screening rather than the normal x-ray machine. Saves some of this trouble

Well, for the first time traveller everything is new may be others get used to it. Recently i read another article wherein you are not supposed to move out of your seat in aircrats bounded inwards in the last 2 hours. later it got changed i think.!!

i dont know whether it is good or bad but sometimes it does hurt religious sentiments!!!

Yaaa! And it's not even uniform across the states-in each airport they have some different mechanism.
In Connecticut, a small puff of air travels up and down ur body-though I have no idea what they achieve with that, the officer told a lady in front of me "Pls hold onto ur skirt, m'am." Lol! Thx for the warning dude!!
